Here you will find jokes, quips and jests all about everyone's favourite town between Torphichen and Seafield.

About Us

Bathgate.lol, formerly "Bathgate Laughs" pre-internet, was set up as a comedy club back in 1995. That's almost thirty years it has now been running! Hurrah!

Unfortunately, since its inception, despite great attempts to increase its size, I have still remained the only member. But hopefully now that it's on cyberspace, all the fellow jokers of Bathgate will join! Hurrah!!!

We meet monthly, which used to be bimonthly until it was reduced due to low turnout.

When researching Bathgate Laughs, as it was then called, I tried searching "BL" to see if maybe people were talking about my wonderful beloved club, on the net, already, right now. But what I found was far stranger, and, arguably, far more intriguing.

It turns out "BL" is, in fact, a popular acronym describing a type of Japanese fiction, also known as "yaoi". This is basically what it's called when it's a story about two men that are in love, particularly in a sexual sense, with each other.

A popular "BL" is called "DRAMAtical Murder", and is about a main character, called "Aoba" (which is a Japanese name I think), and he basically falls in love with multiple other men. You might think this seems rather unmonogamous, but, fascinatingly, it uses the technology of computers to make each of these fallings in love happen based on "user input", and so they don't just happen BAM BAM BAM one after the other, or anything. Think Shelley Jackson etc., like hypertext and the like.

DRAMAtical Murder is currently available on Steam. Check it out!

As for myself, I was born in March 1854. I remember very little, if anything, of my birth, but I have since been assured that that is actually perfectly natural. What isn't so natural, they tell me, is living to be, what, 170 years old (I almost lose track!!). Well, I'm sure my time will be up eventually, but heavens knows I won't go down without a good thrashing.

I've seen a lot of change in the world throughout my life. From the (relatively) recent innovation in "IoT" technology, where people can now connect even a damned refrigerator to the net work, all the way back to the beginnings of widespread usage of the humble automobile, a lot has happened in my time. I remember specifically back in the day, when there were reports there was a "Jack the Ripper" doing some rather dastardly actions down in London. Every so often I pop into the police station to ask if they caught him yet, but, as of Thursday, they still don't have a clue. Just goes to show that some things, at least, never change!

On the topic of myself, and, in the absence of any other members of our club, I feel it would be perfectly apt and not at all unacceptable to list just a few of my hobbies. I like to go fishing, and to cook. My favourite thing to cook is fish. As you could guess, these two tie into each other very nicely! Ho ho!

Well, that's about all I can think of. Ciao!!!
